Legal Christianity

I am looking at a list of all the 'Christian' books that can be legally printed in China. There are about 36 of them by such authors as John Stott, Joni E. Tada, Josh McDowell, James Dobson, Gary Chapman, Hudson Taylor, and Tim LaHaye.

This got me to thinking. If the Chinese government would only allow me to print 11 Christian books (other than the Bible) in their country, what 11 books would I pick? Even better (for blog purposes), what 11 would WE pick. I'll pick the first one, and each commenter can pick ONE additional book. I'll leave my pick as a comment.

This is what we came up with

1. Disciple (Ortiz)
2. Challenge of Jesus (Wright)
3. Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment (Burroughs)
4. What's so amazing about grace (Yancy)
5. Not my Will (Arnold)
6. Velvet Elvis (Rob Bell)
7. Run w/the Horses (Peterson)
8. Lion, Witch & Wardrobe (Lewis)
9. Mere Christianity (Lewis)
10. Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now (Seuss)
11. The Cross Centered Life (Mahaney)

Disciple (by Juan Carlos Ortiz)

I think this book is very impacting. Ortiz is bluntly truthful and provokes allegiance to God and His Kingdom.

Ok this one changed me. What's So Amazing About Grace - Phillip Yancey

Oh yeah and can I have some stars. My teachers at school would never give me any.

Great idea. I'm gonna check into all of these books. My favorite book is one that I don't think is even in print anymore. Not my Will by Francena H. Arnold. No, it's not about theology, and it doesn't contain any sermons, but it has continued to challenge my faith with the 15th reading!

Hey, and thanks for the add on your roller - I got stars without asking for them! :-)

Kirk. I really need to read some Philip Yancy. I am quite sure I'd like him. It is strange that I have not read his stuff yet. You can have a star b/c you were good today.

Missy. 15th reading? I'll have to check that out. I don't think I've read anything 15 times yet :) Yeah, I noticed that you updated so I gave you stars. Hopefully the auto-stars will start shining soon!

Congratulations Kirk on the stars,

Matthew, I really think you should consider all of Jo’s suggestions. Reasons are
1) They’re good books. I haven’t read them but Jo suggested them and I trust her
2) I am going to suggest a three books:

Run With the Horses –Eugene H. Peterson
Hinds’ Feet on High Places –Hannah Hurnard
The Screwtape Letters –C.S. Lewis

If you insist on only one title I’d go with Run With the Horses. If you’d allow another title I want to add Out of the Comfort Zone by George Verwer. Even if it was just the first chapter. First chapter was good stuff.

The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. When I look back on it, I think the whole set is what started me thinking about theology. But I'll stick with that one.

Mere Christianity...Gotta love CS Lewis

If I were alloweda second it would be Marvin K Mooney Will you Please Go Now by Dr. Seuss. Those of you that have read it can see that it has the comedic device that I use the most in it. It shaped my humour almost as much as Pee Wee, SNL, Monty Python, and Weird Al did.

OK...if we get to nominate secondary choices, I choose In His Image by Dr. Paul Brand & Philip Yancy. Oh...and They Call Me Coach by John Wooden, and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.

Maybe I should log out and leave separate comments for each book as anonymous and then they would count...

haha, I'm still NOT allowing 2nd votes. Though, technically, I can't stop anyone from using Audrey's scheme.

um...i'm missing stars again....

for some reason it put me as anonymous...

there ya go :)

Uh yeah I'm just some anonymous guy and I would like to vote for Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now by Dr. Seuss for the same reason that that Kirk guy said above, Wow he is so smart.
