Out of your picks: A Christmas Story.

What about A Christmas Carol? At a time when Christmas is becoming more and more commercialized, we would do well to heed its message about the right and wrong ways to use wealth. As Scrooge's example shows, those who serve Mammon often end up lonely in this life and face judgement in the next.

With all due respect to the anonymous blogger, I am so sick of people gripping about the "commercialization" of Christmas. Why do we expect that the world would show respect for a celebration about Jesus birth yet disrespect him with the rest of their year.

Not to mention the fact that Christmas is actually a stolen holiday from the Roman Son God and Jesus was actually born probably closer to Labour Day. So really what we need to be complaining about is the world acting no different than it does the rest of the year while we celebrate the stolen holiday from pagans...

But maybe this is another blog I need to write on my own site.

Elliott, I recognize your point, but I also think anonymous makes a great point in regards to the commercialization of Christmas BY CHRISTIANS.

No matter what date Jesus was truly born, the church has chosen to celebrate and focus on the incarnation at this time of year. And yet, increasingly, I observe the church itself getting caught up in the consumerism.

In other words, while we certainly can't fault non-christians for acting like themselves, we can fault christians for acting like non-christians in the area of end of the year consumerism.

Just my two cents
