no dispute here. I'm having a hard time keeping it all straight. Andrew missed a few episodes at the end of the season and last night wanted an update. Not that kind of show husband...have to watch it and THEN hope for the best.
kristi, that's because the show's focus is fear-mongering and mystery....there is no plot! at least not anything substantial that one can recount.... even though i watched this show last night because my friends do, i still, regretfully, have to agree with ap.
IF (and to me it's an almost impossible 'if') the writers are able to make sense of everything they've thrown out there in a legitimate way, it will, no doubt, go down as one of the greatest television shows of all time.
Frankly, I like the show. It's one of the only 2 shows i watch right now. I just think all its fans may be very disappointed when it's over if they don't make sense of all the baffling twists.
If, however, they don't find a way to weave all the strangeness into a believable ending, it will go down as one of the most disappointing television shows of all time
it's the post-modern loss of meta-narrative. no one has any clue what makes for a good, long, rational-twist-filled story. The Office is doing it; Harry Potter is doing it. LOST is not. Same with tonnes of new shows that are all about the high drama and fast pace that can only make for a decent movie, but not a great movie and definitely not a good tv show.
frankly, some boring parts are necessary for all good stories. there needs to be character and background and set-up. otherwise, like LOST, it sucks.
I think the characters have been fairly well developed (especially considering how many of them there are). In some ways, the entire format of the show (constant flashbacks) is ideal for character development.
I'll agree with you IF all the odd components aren't brought together in the end. In that case, they will have been cheap tricks just to get good ratings.
I bet you like the Office & Harry Potter (well, ok, i know you do). It's seems a lil redundant to say the shows you like contain better writing, no? :)
Thought you guys might be interested in this...I've never seen Lost and frankly have too many things to keep up with as it is so I couldn't possibly give an opinion on it. The woman I student-taught under loves the show. Anyway, here's a link to an obvious "Lost" fan's blog which might help to make sense of all the disarray: http://lost-and-gone-forever.blogspot.com/
well, i just caved and watched this year's premiere (I love that you can watch full episodes online). I really like it. i feel a bit lost as far as characters go because i don't know any of the back story, but this episode was actually emotion-wrenching. i think i'll have to watch it again next week. lol
I LOVE LOST!! I CAN'T BELIEVE ALL THE DISCING OF THIS SHOW. IF YOU DON'T SHAPE UP YOUR GOING TO BE A PART OF THE DHARMA EXPERIMENT! Also, it took me a bit to get into this show. We have season one. Getting the DVDs really helps to understand everything better and they you get more addicted.
Anyway, wow! I taped it so I could watch it again. I liked the insight into the characters.
I hated how Kate was treated to put on that sleezy dress.
Sawyer still cracks me up.
Jack is still my hero.
The leader of the "cult" is super psycho.
I think I like the new girl that Jack attacked. Even though she is "the other"
I'm having mixed emotions about LOST after last night's premier...not real sure how I'm feeling about the show now...I think nothing tops the first season so far. I hope they prove me wrong this season. I was diappointed with the last one, and with last night's episode. I think this is one of those shows that didn't plan to be such a huge hit, so now hey have to keep dragging the story out to satisfy hungry fans...that, in the past, has not usually made for a good thing...
That site is crazy! I can't believe someone is that thorough with their analysis :)

I totally agree with that. But it's the networks fault. They give these new shows such a short leash. They need to know what's going to succeed and give them a few years confidence.
i am not concerned whether or not LOST has good character development. it could. it sucks regardless. it is all twist and no lime. now, like you say, if somehow they all pull it off, then i'll reconsider. if, however, they continue to plummet and constantly jump the shark to keep their viewers, then my opinion will be justified. i have nothing to gain from their (continued) demise. good luck to them! a good TV show is a rare commodity at the moment, so i'm all for their success!
but, to answer your question, no. i don't promote the writing of harry potter and the office because i'm a fan. i am a fan because the writing is excellent (for HP) and good (for The Office). i have nothing to gain from anyone liking either of them and take no offense if people don't.
I love love love this show! It so easily pulls you in and once you're in you can't get away. There have been very few shows that I have been addicted to, but this is definitely one of them. I watched the series premiere much by accident and have been hooked ever since. Half of the fun of the show is speculating on the mysteries.

At this point, i'm working under the premise that the writers are just messing with our heads
Anyone dispute this?
the show sucks. period.

I disagree with you, potentially.

oh and i forgot to mention that this show reminds me of the computer game "Myst" and its subsequent trilogy. very thought-provoking and mysterious.
