Which cliche do you find more truthful?

heart grow fonder

-or-

It definitely depends on WHO you're talking about. I find that with my immediate family, absence does make the heart grow fonder - even if we weren't on the best of terms and even if the absence was short.

I agree with anon, the who makes the difference. Both can be true. For me it is normally out of sight out of mind.

yea, when it comes to being a male (I realize this is a sweeping generalization), I think "out of sight, out of mind" takes over more often than the other

"absense makes the heart grow fonder" is true for me most of the time. the only people i tend to forget are the ones i never trusted/liked to begin with.

both. I missed my family in Africa, but after being for for like 2 days I realized they really hadn't changed.
and then there are the plethora of Bethany students and other friends that you forget but come to your mind every now again. …its like the person who only came for a semester, and you forget about them until some asks where they went.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder... sometimes our actions make it seem like out of sight out of mind is more accurate, but for me the former is definitely the truth. The longer I am away the rosier the memory grows.

I tend to think 'out of sight, out of mind' is true more OFTEN, but that 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' is true more DEEPLY.

Thanks for participating :)

Out of sight, out of mind is more truthful. When I think of examples in my head, that is the closest to the truth.

However--in reality its all mental.

I think absence makes the heart grow fonder...at first, but after a while but then the latter takes over.

I think you are right meredith

I really miss people for a while after they leave, but it fades with time and new relationships
